In today's stressful and fast paced world,where people have the wrong type of food and drink,often 'on the run',hyper acidity and heartburn are common problems which are rampant.With this a person feels a burning pain in the gullet or chest.The causes of this are many,but the usual culprits are overeating,eating too much spicy,rich and oily food,excessive alcohol consumption ,or smoking too much.Sometimes this complaint is caused by lying down immediately after a meal,and is worse when lying on the right side.Follow these simple things so as to stay away from these heartburn's and acidity:
- Eating a ripe ,mashed banana with a cup of milk in the morning has a soothing effect on heartburn and stomach ulcers.Prefer cows milk for better results.
- If there is heartburn at other times,not just after meals,drink half a cup of fresh,sweet orange juice to which a pinch of rock salt is added.This will bring immediate relief.
- Mix a teaspoon of fresh ginger juice with a similar amount of honey.Lick it from a spoon now and then,2-3 times a day.
- A teaspoon of fresh ginger juice with a teaspoon of freshly roasted,coarsely ground cumin seeds,and a pinch of rock salt,all added to glass of buttermilk,is a particularly soothing drink for heartburn.
- Pound one spoon each of coriander and cumin seeds coarsely,add half a litre of water and leave overnight.In the morning mash the seeds in water and filter .Add jaggery or sugar to taste,and have 2-3 tablespoons twice a day for 4-5 days.
- Having a teaspoon of psyllium husk fiber with 2-3 tablespoon of milk immediately after a meal prevents acidity.
- Instead of tea,coffee and aerated drinks,drink milk,fresh fruit juice,buttermilk and other milk products.Herbal tea with spearmint and liquorice gives relief.
- cabbage contains certain vitamins that help cure acidity.Drink cabbage juice daily.Cooking destroys some active ingredients responsible for curing stomach ailments.
- Cucumber juice when taken on a regular basis cures acidity.
- Avoid frequent use of aspirin and disprin.
- Drinking of water neutralizes acid to a great extent.Drink water in the early morning is a very good habit for controlling acidity and relieving constipation.
