Do Kids Need To Be Fit ? 
A lot us believe that kids do not need any attention to fitness as they are generally more active, more flexible and have more energy.But this is incorrect. Kids need to exercise (in ways appropriate for their age) to build strength, endurance and immunity. Kids who develop the habit of exercising are likely to spend healthier lives as adults as compared to those who learn the significance of exercise in childhood.
Why is Fitness Important for Kids ?
There are more reasons, It develops strong bones & muscles,following reasons are :
  • Weight Control : with access to unlimited junk foods, processed foods and aerated drinks, weight gain amongst kids is a common occurence. Being Physically fit and active is therefore important.
  • Build-Up of Good Cholesterol : physical exercise helps from HDL cholestrol ("Good" Cholesterol).
  • Reduced risk of Type 2 Diabetes : Children who have diabetic parents and also those who run a risk of contracting this disease would benefit from regular exercise.
  • Reduced Mental Stress : Bulging school syllabus, the pressure to be amongst the top runners in class and to top it all peer pressure. Between all this, Stress takes a toll on kids. Physically active kids are better equiped to handle stress than those who are sedentary.
  • Better Sleep : Being active, tires kids and they get to sleep tighter, better and wakeup refreshed.
  • Better Social Interaction : Playing games in the childhood encourages kids to imbibe the spirit of team building and teaches them to interact with other kids. This is very important through out one's life.
Habit of Execise in Kids :-
  • For kids,the exercise need not be exercise per se. Anything which gets their interest and gets them moving is good enough.
  • Reduce sedentary time i.e. time spent watching TV, talking on the phone, surfing the internet, playing Videogame etc.,
  • Play fun games like bowling the bubbles with your children: As an adult,you blow the bubbles and ask kids to chase them.It's an any-time fun activity.
  • Dance: Put on some music and dance with your child at home or send your kids to a dance class.
  • Enrol your kids in a kids gym or fitness program specially designed for their age. Krida Yoga for kids is another popular form of exercise.
  • Many Communities organize contests for games, cycling, swimming, etc., specially for kids and reward the winners with gifts that would help further fitness program.
  • Be a role model for your little one: Kids love to do what their elders do. Get moving and serious about fitness yourself and this will automatically get your kids to value fitness early in life.
  • When you plan vacations, try to include adventure activities too instead of just lazying around the resort.
